Abstract

Child sexual abuse remains a serious issue that can negatively affect victims’ psychological, physical, and social well-being. Limited knowledge of sex education, low parental awareness, and inadequate child protection are among the factors that increase the risk of sexual abuse. This community service activity aimed to improve children’s and adolescents’ knowledge of sex education as an early prevention strategy against sexual abuse. The program was conducted through sex psychoeducation at SOS Children’s Village Banda Aceh. The activities included educational sessions, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and the use of visual media such as pictures and videos tailored to participants’ level of understanding. The results showed that some participants had experienced sexual abuse perpetrated by individuals close to them, including family members and religious teachers. The psychoeducation program enhanced participants’ understanding of the forms of sexual abuse, personal body boundaries, and self-protection strategies in risky situations. The activity concluded that sex psychoeducation is effective in increasing children’s knowledge and awareness of sexual abuse prevention. The findings imply that sex education should be provided continuously by families, schools, and social institutions to strengthen child protection against sexual violence.
