Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

EKOBISMAK: Journal of Economics, Business, Management, and Accounting

EKOBISMAK and its editorial board fully adhere to the ethical standards and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of editors, reviewers, and authors in the publication process.

Duties of Editors

Publication Decisions

The editorial board of EKOBISMAK is responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts will be published. This decision is based on the manuscript’s academic quality, relevance, validity, originality, reviewers’ recommendations, and compliance with legal requirements such as those related to defamation, copyright, and plagiarism. Editorial assessments are conducted objectively, without discrimination based on the author’s gender, ethnicity, country of origin, religious belief, political ideology, or institutional affiliation.

Confidentiality, Disclosure, and Conflicts of Interest

Editors must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts. Information may only be shared with corresponding authors, reviewers, potential reviewers, and editorial advisors when necessary. Unpublished materials must not be used in the personal research of editors or others without written permission from the authors. Funding sources and the role of funders must be disclosed transparently when applicable.

Author Relations

Editors must ensure a fair, unbiased, and timely peer-review process. EKOBISMAK applies strict policies for submissions from editorial board members to prevent conflicts of interest. Clear authorship criteria are provided to maintain transparency and academic integrity.

Reviewer Relations

Reviewers are encouraged to identify ethical concerns such as data manipulation, plagiarism, redundancy, or unethical research methods. All reviewer comments will be shared fully with authors, except those containing offensive or inappropriate remarks. EKOBISMAK values the contribution of reviewers and may discontinue collaboration with those who consistently deliver poor-quality, discourteous, or excessively delayed reviews.

Quality Assurance

Editors are responsible for ensuring the scientific accuracy and integrity of all published content. They must verify ethical approval for studies involving human or animal subjects and ensure adherence to standards related to intellectual property. Any errors discovered after publication must be corrected promptly in cooperation with the publisher.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists the editorial board in making publication decisions and supports authors in improving their manuscripts through constructive feedback.

Promptness

Reviewers who feel unqualified to assess a manuscript or cannot complete the review within the assigned timeframe must notify the editor promptly.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without the editor’s permission.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted objectively and professionally. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Comments should be expressed clearly and supported by sound arguments.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers must identify relevant published work that has not been cited and inform the editor of any substantial similarity between the manuscript under review and other known publications.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must not use any information obtained during the review process for personal benefit. They should decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must provide an accurate, objective, and complete account of their research. Data should be presented truthfully, and manuscripts must include sufficient detail and references to allow reproducibility. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements are considered unethical.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to make such data publicly accessible when appropriate.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their work is original. Any use of the work of others must be properly cited and referenced. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others is mandatory. All publications that have influenced the research must be cited appropriately.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

Manuscripts involving hazardous materials or human/animal subjects must clearly identify such elements and comply with ethical standards.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and funding sources. If none exist, the following statement must be included:
“The authors declare that they have no competing interests.”

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they must notify the editor immediately and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.

Plagiarism Policies

EKOBISMAK enforces a strict anti-plagiarism policy. Manuscripts containing any form of plagiarism—including partial plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or duplicate publication—will be rejected. Preprints are not considered duplicate publications. All submissions are screened using Turnitin, and manuscripts with unacceptable similarity levels will be rejected immediately.

Withdrawal of Manuscripts

Manuscripts may not be withdrawn after submission, as this wastes editorial and reviewer resources. Authors may request manuscript withdrawal only if no editorial progress has occurred after six months, and such requests must be formally submitted to the Editorial Board.

Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retraction

Corrections require approval from the editor. Minor corrections will be incorporated into the article, while major corrections will be published separately. Retractions follow COPE guidelines.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any conflicts of interest. If none exist, they must state:
“The authors declare that they have no competing interests.”

Ethics and Consent for Human, Animal, and Plant Research

Research involving human participants, animals, plants, or biological materials must include an ethics approval statement specifying the committee name, approval number, and details of participant consent. Animal studies must follow recognized welfare guidelines.

Allegations of Misconduct

Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes the unauthorized use of text, ideas, data, or images without proper attribution. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be rejected or retracted.

Data Fabrication

Fabrication or manipulation of data is strictly prohibited.

Data Falsification

Altering or misrepresenting data or research results constitutes unethical behavior.

Duplicate Submissions

Submitting a manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is considered misconduct. Secondary or translated submissions must be disclosed and approved by the editor.

Authorship Issues

The journal adheres to clear authorship criteria and provides mechanisms for resolving authorship disputes.

Citation Manipulation

Adding unnecessary citations solely to increase citation counts is unethical.

Manipulation of Peer Review or Bias

EKOBISMAK strictly follows COPE standards to ensure objective and unbiased peer review.

Errata and Corrigenda

Changes/Additions to Accepted Articles

Requests for changes to accepted manuscripts must be submitted to the editor. Significant additions require submission as a new manuscript.

Erratum

Issued when errors originate from the publisher.

Corrigendum

Issued when authors request corrections after acceptance.

Content Integrity and CrossMark Policy

EKOBISMAK applies the CrossMark icon to all published content as a commitment to maintaining publication integrity. CrossMark ensures that readers can identify the authoritative version of a document and be notified of corrections or updates.
